UMC Group Invested Memocom® Enters into NOR Flash MCP Market Successfully
2007-03-28
A UMC group invested Memory design house, Memocom, has been arrpoved by Taiwan's handset OEM Compal Communications (CCI) and CCI's customer Motorola. Its 32Mb NOR flash MCP with 4Mb PSRAM (PSARM: Pseudo SRAM) was approved and entered into mass production since January. Shipment to CCI for this April is estimated to be over 1M. Memocom® is the first Taiwan company which successfully sell its NOR flash MCP to top tier mobile phone manufacturers. Besides, more China mobile phone companies has already adopted its MCP products. As its market growing, Memocom® is predicted to be world's top five NOR flash MCP provider for handset use this year.

The cooperation between Memocom® and Intel® is crucial to Memocom's® progress on cooperating with top tier handset manufactures. The world's leading NOR flash provider Intel® , chooses Memocom® among Taiwan's SRAM providers as its low density flash partner in Taiwan MCP market. Memocom® now offers: 32Mb NOR flash MCP with 8Mb PSRAM, 32Mb NOR flash MCP with 4Mb PSRAM, 16Mb NOR flash MCP with 8Mb PSRAM, 16Mb NOR flash MCP with 4Mb PSRAM and 16Mb NOR flash MCP with 2Mb PSRAM. Owing that its MCP is manufactured locally and that saves the MCP cost, Memocom ®enters into the NOR flash market without difficulties. This competitiveness will also help Intel®'s NOR flash market share grow.

Memocom®, founded since year 2000, was a fabless professsional Memory design house. This company is invested by UMC group, including SiS and ITE. It dedicates to low power-consumption Memory IC design and manufacturing. Memocom® has patented its low-power consumption technology and now 8 were granted. In terms of Memory design, Memocom® is a world-leading low-power Memory design house and so a good strategic partner on low power Memory IC technology.

Memocom® self designs the worldwide most power-saving Pseudo SRAM, now it has 2Mb, 4Mb, and 8Mb PSRAM. It adopts its unique KT-SRAM®; structure, which sucessfully saves power consumption. Taking 8Mb PSRAM for instance, its standby current 30uA much outperforms other competitors' 70uA to 100uA. Since MCP products are mainly apply to portable devices, besides power consumption, cost-saving and functionality are also key issues. Memocom's® I-Combo and S-Combo series MCP products will adopt Intel's 90nm Intel NOR flash stacked with Memocom's® 0.11um Pseudo SRAM soon. The more advanced process MCP will be the most cost-effective solution in the market. It also shows that Intel does not give up low density NOR flash, on the contrary, it keeps seeking progress on it.

Memocom® has agressively sent its flash MCP products to global handset manufacturers for varification in addition to CCI. Moreover, Memocom bundles its flash MCP with baseband chip on portable devices platforms. This way will minimize application compatibility problems and also have much more opportunities to expose to handsets manufacturers. Already 8 baseband chip providers have approved Memocom's® flash MCP and some of them simply co-work with Memocom® targeting at China market. It is predicted to see their explicit achievement in this Q2.

As isuppli reported, in developing countries like China, India, and Africa, there is estimated 1.4 million demand for low-end and Ultra Low Cost Handsets (ULCH) till year 2010. High-end handsets like Feature Phone and Smart Phone even have market of 700 million volumn. Memocom® is not satisfied with stepping into low-end mobile phone market. Its high density but power-saving Mobile SDRAM and CellularRAMTM products will continuely present to the market in the second half of 2007. Consquently Memocom® will widen its range of MCP product lines. Memocom® has confidence of its flash MCP product quality and sell to the world leading 5 top-tier mobile phone manufacturers soon. Memocom's® advantagies come from its capability on Memory design, faithful commitment from manufacturing subcontractor and strategically partnership connected with Intel®. Although Memocom is a new-commer to the flash market, it is belived to occupy a prominent position in the MCP Memory field before long.
